Edge Of A Dream

On The Edge Of A Dream
Bert Jansch: vocal, acoustic guitar
Bernard Butler: electric guitar
Adam Jansch: bass guitar
Makoto Sakamoto: drums
Rock baby rock
In your cradle serene
Rock baby rock
All is not what it seems
You’re living like a shadow
On the edge of a dream

Rock baby rock
Can you hear your mama cry
Rock baby rock
She’s crying why, why, why
She bears the pain and sorrow
Be you dead or alive
Rock baby rock
Give it all that you’ve got

Rock baby rock
It may not mean a lot
Every second that you’re living
Will never ever be forgot
Rock baby rock
You gotta rock and roll

Rock and roll
Is good for the soul
Come in from the edge
And let the good times roll
Rock baby rock now
In your cradle serene
Rock baby rock
All is not what it seems
You’re living life like a shadow
On the edge of a dream

All This Remains
Bert Jansch: acoustic guitar
Hope Sandoval: vocal
Adam Jansch: bass guitar
Colm O' Ciosoig: drums
I've been seeing you
In this house of mine
Got your arms away
From my strange disguise
All the things that you believe
Are still in me
As though you please

And they shimmer
On the ends of my memories
I could feel your ghost
In the breeze

I'm telling you this
So you won't have anything
But this to know
Our colours fade
All this remains

And they shimmer
On the ends of my memories
I could feel your ghost
In the breeze

It's not so much
That you should say
You had a love
Turn out this way
It covers your ears
And stops your heart
And holds you near

The shimmer
On the ends of my memories
I could feel your ghost
In the breeze

What Is On Your Mind
Bert Jansch: vocal, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar
Makoto Sakamoto: drums
Now I can help you stop being lonely
Baby I can help you unwind
But darling, you gotta talk to me
Darling please, tell me what’s on your mind

In the dead of the night and the silence
In the deepest darkest part of your heart
The thoughts you keep, before you sleep
Oh darling, will leave us forever apart

Now I can help you drive away your demons
Help you see the light of the day
But only if you let me in
Darling please, there’s always another way

Now you can cast out your bread on the water
Gather in your flowers in May
But darling, please talk to me
Let me baby, chase the shadows away

A word without breath is just silence
The answer is a lifetime away
Find the words and talk to me
Darling please, let me hear what you say

Now I can help you stop being lonely
Baby I can help you unwind
But darling, you gotta talk to me
Oh darling please, tell me what’s on your mind
What is on your mind
What is on your mind
Oh darling, what is on your mind…

Sweet Death
Bert Jansch: vocal, acoustic guitar
Dave Swarbrick: violin
Oh my sweet love, come to me
Take me in your soft embrace
Sweet love, please come closer
That I may touch your gentle face
Sing to me a love song
That will drive away my earthly fears
And when it’s all over
You can wipe away the tears

Sweet Death, please come easy
Help me end my suffering
Please hurry to my bedside
I cannot wait another day
Come quickly fill my being
Let no-one know that you are there
Then quietly light a candle
Walk ahead to show the way

Too long have I suffered
To carry on another day
Gently close my eyes now
Let hope and care fade away
Carry me across the water
Where the darkness meets the day
As I follow in your footsteps
Your candle lights the way

I Cannot Keep From Crying
Bert Jansch: vocal, acoustic guitar
Bernard Butler: electric guitar
Makoto Sakamoto: drums, percussion
Well I cannot keep from crying sometimes
You know I cannot keep from crying sometimes
My heart is full of sorrow
My eyes are full of tears
I cannot keep from crying sometimes

Well I thought when she first left me
I’d get on a little while
Soon it'll be all over
And I’d journey with a smile
But as I get older
I think of what I told her
I cannot keep from crying sometimes

I cannot keep from crying sometimes
You know I cannot keep from crying sometimes
My heart is full of sorrow
My eyes are full of tears
I cannot keep from crying sometimes

Well I thought when she first left me
I’d get on a little while
Soon it'll be all over
And I’d journey with a smile
But as I get older
I think of what I told her
I laugh to keep from crying sometimes

You know I cannot keep from crying sometimes
You know I cannot keep from crying sometimes
My heart is full of sorrow
My eyes are full of tears
I cannot keep from crying sometimes

I laugh to keep from crying sometimes

Well I cannot keep from crying sometimes
You know I cannot keep from crying sometimes
My heart is full of sorrow
My eyes are full of tears
I cannot keep from crying sometimes

Well I thought when she first left me
I’d get on a little while
Soon it'll be all over
And I’d journey with a smile
But as I get older
I think of what I told her
I laugh to keep from crying some times

La Luna
Bert Jansch: vocal, acoustic guitar, bass guitar
Johnny "Guitar" Hodge: spanish guitar
Dirty blood, dripping from a black sky
Onto a barren land
And everywhere there’s sorrow, despair and desolation
There is no air nowhere
Dogs bark and it’s dark and scary
From the towers to the ocean
Under a Hecatean moon
La Luna

Sister sister Luna, you know who I am, like a star
That flashes and glitters in your eyes in the moonlight
Or the fire on a mountain
Or the light in the heart of a man and the sun that shines
With a glimpse of the light divine
Behind the veil of a rainbow
Just like Perdurabo said
It’s gonna be alright

Oooh La Luna, oh she did me good

With a love that loves to love
That loves to love the love that loves to love
Oooh La Luna
And I love to listen to you Lu, and I admire you
For your survival
Sweet poetry and tragedy and comedy and rock’n’roll
Keeping it all in motion
Under a Hecatean moon
La Luna

Walking This Road
Bert Jansch: vocal, acoustic guitar
Bernard Butler: electric guitar, keyboard
Makoto Sakamoto: drums, percussion
Have you ever been down
That long and lonesome road
Walking by yourself
You’re all alone
Alone with the blues

There’s not a kindly word
Not a smile on a friendly face
As you walk on by
You feel you’re in disgrace
You and the blues

When night-time falls
And you ain’t got no place at all
You walk the streets
You’re kicking up dust
Just you and the blues

In the mad mad crowd
They don’t see that you are there
And if you stand real still
They’ll leave you unimpaired
They’ll leave you with the blues

It’s such a long long road
Goes on forever and ever and ever
You can’t decide
If you’re gonna get off
Or carry on for the ride

'Cause when you got the blues
Walking by your side you’re happy
Happy as can be now
For you ain’t walking this road, this road alone

The Quiet Joys Of Brotherhood
Bert Jansch: acoustic guitar
Loren Jansch: vocal
Adam Jansch: bass guitar, keyboards
As gentle tides go rolling by
Along the salt-sea strand
The colours blend and roll as one
To gather in the sand
And often do the winds entwine
To send their distant call
The quiet joys of brotherhood
And love is lord of all

The oak and weed together lie
Along the common ground
The mare and stallion, light and dark
Have thunder in their sound
The rainbow’s sign, the blended cloud
Still have my heart in thrall
The quiet joys of brotherhood
And love is lord of all

But man has come to plough the tide
The oak lies on the ground
I hear their fires in the fields
They drive the stallion down
The roses bleed, both light and dark
The winds do seldom call
The running sands recall the time
When love was lord of all

Bright Sunny Morning
Bert Jansch: vocal, acoustic guitar
Ralph McTell: harmonica
On a bright sunny morning
In downtown New York
People are rushing to get to their work
Unaware as the events of the day unfold
Gonna haunt them for the rest of their lives
For high overhead there’s a mighty explosion
A fireball on the ninetieth floor
For like a cruise guided missile flight 11 has flown
Straight into the World Trade Centre tower
Everybody stands there in disbelief

Out from nowhere arrives flight 175
And he looks like he’s gonna travel on his way
Then he banks and turns, does a kamikaze dive
Into the heart of the twin sister tower
Now that look of disbelief has turned to horror and grief
Some are on their knees praying for the dead
With both towers ablaze the world watches on TV
It’s all there for the whole world to see
Took twenty minutes to change history

Like a gambler who throws in a bad hand at cards
The twin towers they give in to their fate
They fall one by one, floor by floor
Sounds like stampeding buffalo
All over Manhattan a dust cloud settles
That blocks out the sky and the sun
From Brooklyn to Peking the world holds its breath
The day the World Trade Centre fell
On the day the World Trade Centre fell

Who could believe what has happened today
In this land of the brave and the free
Who could have torn out the heart of our city
Our proud symbol of sweet liberty
Now the government says it knows who to blame
And it won’t stop till it cuts them down
But that won’t bring back three thousand people who died
On the day the World Trade Centre fell
On the day the World Trade Centre fell
